The Joy Of Being Just Ordinary

by

Being Nothing Special Is A Special Way To Be

Being ordinary

is a thing to be treasured.

It means you can get up each morning

and eat and drink,

and read and write,

and watch television,

or whatever,

as you please,

and nobody will know or care

if you do or don’t

do any of these things.

It means you don’t have to be

anything more than you are.

You don’t have to be

something special.

A hero, say, or a warrior,

or a leader of men,

someone who has to tell people

what to do, and when,

though not always why.

Someone who has to say,

go out there

and die for me,

die for your country,

die for all the other

ordinary people like you,

and the ordinary women

and ordinary children

who will die

if you do not die for me.

Imagine that.

Imagine having to say that.

Imagine what would happen

to all the ordinary people

without this

extraordinary man.
