When You Should Have Said Yes

Too soon, you come to it.

The realisation that, at some point,

at some time in the past,

you should have turned left

instead of right,

that you should have said yes

instead of no.

Taking that chance,

that opportunity,

that job or that course,

saying yes to that boy,

or no to that girl,

it would have changed things,

it could have made things better.

Too soon, you get past the point

when you should have said

yes or no,

and not maybe,

when you still had the chance

of making a change,

making a difference,

and then you realise

you are where you are,

you are what you are,

you are all that you will be,

that it’s all too late,

too soon.
